Thousands of mourners attended the funeral of Birmingham's Mega Mela co-founder Mohammed Saleem. The well-known community figure worked tirelessly around Alum Rock to improve the lives of others.

Mr Saleem, 53, died earlier this month of a heart attack leaving behind five children, a one-year-old grandaughter and many family and friends. An estimated 5,000 worshippers filled the Zia Ul Quran Mosque in Saltley for prayers, with more said to be standing outside during the evening service on Monday, November 13.

They said on their Facebook page: "This is a big loss for our community as brother Saleem was a regular member of our congregation, a pillar of our community and a great personality in Alum Rock."

A man to brighten any gathering with his presence, humble, polite, smiling, going out of his way to make all have a smile. No words are enough to explain what sal was, i mean that from bottom of heart.

"Gentle giant. Pure class."
