A woman was left mortified when she accidentally ordered a single drink for almost £2,000 at a swanky hotel. The woman told her TikTok followers she had 'no idea' the cocktail she ordered was priced so highly.

She told how she 'didn't even enjoy' the drink which contained Cristal Champagne. Her husband was so 'furious' he stormed out of the London bar when she showed him the drinks receipt.

The mum and self-proclaimed 'workaholic', called Lynsey, thought the drink was priced at £18.90 as it was set out a '18 90' on the menu. But she was stunned when she later realised it actually cost £1,890.

She shared what happened on TikTok via @lynsey_26, MirrorOnline reports. She said: "I showed my husband the receipt and he was furious at me."

Lynsey also did not know the drink contained Cristal Champagne, a sprinkled gold leaf, and 30-year-old whisky. She added: "It was my mistake but it was genuine. I started to panic as this was a five-star hotel.

"I said to the young guy behind the bar, 'look I'm so sorry, I had no idea it was £1,890'. The manager was so discreet and so wonderful. He completely played it down. He was like 'look it's fine, don't worry about it, we will sort this out'."

The woman told how her nerves were 'wrecked' following the drinks ordeal. She went back to the bar later during her visit to the hotel, with the manager hugging her.

He said: "This is the girl who made us open the Cristal and we had to drink the Cristal." Lynsey said she burst into tears when the manager joked they had sacked the bartender.

The manager explained it had happened before and told Lynsey she did not have to pay for the expensive cocktail. Lynsey said: "I will forever check the price of cocktails from now on."

More than 1.4million people viewed her TikTok about the mishap, with thousands sharing their reactions. One person said: "They should've been very clear in the ordering like the bartender should have been explaining how much it cost."

Another said: "How on earth can a cocktail cost that much money, it's insane." A third wrote: "The issue is with the menu, the design and the print. If it’s not clear then you could contest it."

One TikTok user recalled how they found themselves in a similar situation and said: "A similar thing happened to us. My dad thought he was being funny and ordered the Iron Bru 1901.

"The waitress had no idea what that was and assumed it was 1 whiskey. This was a top-shelf whiskey that cost £££. My dad doesn’t even like whiskey."

Another commented: "It's true. I once scanned a cheap looking bottle of wine through a checkout and then freaked out when the till told me it was like £300."
