The saying ‘you never see a bookie on a bike’ perhaps doesn’t translate so well to these days of congestion charges but you get the picture.

Bookmakers, or at least the good ones, aren’t in the habit of losing money so when bet365 confirmed this week they had stopped taking bets on Adama Traore moving to Saudia Arabia it was worth taking note. That doesn’t mean he’s definitely going but there’s enough money on it for that to be a real possibility.

Hopefully he doesn’t and Wolves, who have made clear they are keen to keep him, can get the deal done, however difficult that will be with Spurs, Barcelona, Napoli and Sevilla all considered potential options for the out-of-contract forward.

But while the majority of comments on our stories about Adama have said they hope he stays, some have taken the opposite view, saying his stats and end product don’t back up the highlights reels.

He looks an excellent player to me. But I’m new to the job and it wouldn’t be right for me, having seen him for three games, to tell supporters how they should feel when they have seen far more, or even all of his 194 matches in a Wolves shirt since he arrived from Middlesbrough five years ago.

That was something I discussed with Ryan Leister of the Wolves Report podcast when I asked for his view of Adama Traore.

He said: “I am a massive fan of Adama, I don’t think he gets the respect or appreciation he deserves at Wolves. Adama lost his main man when Jimenez got that terrible injury. He had lost someone he had formed a lethal partnership with.

“I hope Adama signs. I don’t think he will. I think he will have suitors elsewhere. Wolves are doing their bit on social media and there is a lot of appreciation for him because clearly they want him to stay. However, would I begrudge Adama going somewhere and getting European football? Absolutely not. He deserves that. He is a unique talent that probably can’t be replaced.

“If Adama had a four year contract what would it cost for him to leave Wolves? And Wolves certainly aren’t going to be able to pay that money to replace someone who is irreplaceable for his unique skill set.”

It's also worth pointing out that his contribution has been more than a Saturday afternoon. After all, he and Anna Price have been named Wolves Foundation and PFA Community players of the Year for their work supporting Wolves' official charity over the last 12 months.

Ok, that doesn't mean he shouldn't be judged by what happens on the pitch. But it does suggest the standard 'best wishes' message if he does move on will be absolutely genuine in his case.
