Wolves and Newcastle United played out a Premier League thriller at Molineux on Saturday evening. Gary O’Neil’s men had to come from behind twice to draw 2-2 in torrential rain and maintain their unbeaten run - which now stretches to five league games.

Newcastle's England striker Callum Wilson scored either side of Mario Lemina’s equaliser for the hosts. Hwang Hee-chan then continued his fine goalscoring form this season to make it 2-2. His goal came after a controversial VAR call awarded Newcastle a penalty.

The Magpies took their time to grow into the contest but they took the lead in the 22nd minute. Wilson was in the right place at the right time to poke home after Jose Sa failed to hold Anthony Gordon's cross.

Wolves were level 14 minutes later when Lemina’s run to the back post was poorly followed by Kieran Trippier before the Gabon international headed past Nick Pope.

The controversial moment of the match came in the latter stages of the first-half when Anthony Taylor awarded Newcastle a penalty after Hwang brought Fabian Schar down. Wilson converted from the spot, albeit with some luck after Sa's save wasn't enough to keep the ball out of the back of the net.

O’Neil’s men levelled for a second time thanks to a sensational solo goal by Hwang. The South Korean forward was slipped in down the right channel by Toti Gomes, checked inside before sending Pope the wrong way.

Wolves are now 12th in the Premier League, behind Chelsea only on goal difference.

Player ratings

Jose Sa: A howler for Wilson's goal after failing to keep hold of Anthony Gordon's cross but was very unfortunate not to keep Wilson's second from the penalty spot. Recovered well to keep his backline organised. 5

Nelson Semedo: Struggled to match Gordon's speed but was back to his usual self within the first quarter of an hour. Got into some dangerous positions but often lacked the final ball. 6

Max Kilman: Marshalled the defence well but was a little off the pace in the second half. The skipper was wearing some strapping on his left knee in the second half, a support he wasn't wearing in the opening 45. 6

Craig Dawson: Calm and composed in possession, the central man of O'Neil's back three defended very well against Wilson when faced with a 1v1 battle. 6

Toti Gomes: Solid in defence and very good on the ball. Showcased his playmaker-like abilities with an excellent assist for Hwang's goal after shrugging off the challenge of two Newcastle players. 7

Rayan Ait-Nouri: Got forward down the left to double-up on Kieran Trippier with Matheus Cunha. Played a more reserve role in the second half, mainly due to Newcastle’s attempts to keep him quiet. 6

Mario Lemina: Guarded Wolves' back four extremely well against Newcastle's midfield trio. Marked his return to the side with a well-taken header at the back post. Wolves are a much better side with him. 7

Mario Lemina

Boubacar Traore: The midfield was helpless in getting stuck underneath Wilson for the first goal but it was a poor afternoon overall for the 22-year-old, who was replaced by Tommy Doyle early in the second half. 5

Pedro Neto: His corner for Lemina's leveller makes him the Premier League top assister with seven this season. Was a constant threat for Dan Burn - who endured a horrific 90 minutes - before pulling up with what looks like a hamstring injury on the counter. Wolves will be hoping it's nothing serious. 6

Hwang Hee-chan: Scored a simply sensational goal inside a tight space to make it 2-2. The forward was unfortunate to concede a penalty in the first-half but was key in Wolves' comeback. 7

Matheus Cunha: Pressed Newcastle's backline well but was rather quiet in attack. Failed to create much when dropping deep but used his experience to aid the comeback. 6

SUBSTITUTES

Tommy Doyle (for Boubacar Traore, 54): Supported Lemina well in the middle of the park and picked out a number of smart passes. Played the box-to-box role well in horrid conditions. 6

Sasa Kalajdzic (for Pedro Neto, 77): A vocal point for Wolves in their attempts for a winner. Had an argument for a penalty in injury-time quickly waved away by Taylor. No late winner this week. 6

Joao Gomes (for Mario Lemina, 86): Brought energy to Wolves' midfield in the final stages of the game and won some important free-kicks in the middle of the park. 6

Not used: Bentley, Doherty, Bueno, Silva, Jonny, Sarabia

GOALS
