Wolves can feel hard done by after conceding a first-half penalty against Newcastle United on Saturday evening.

Hwang Hee-chan was adjudged to have fouled Fabian Schar in stoppage time, with the Newcastle defender hitting the deck and referee Anthony Taylor pointing to the spot. Many are saying the Magpies man went down too easily, and that the spot kick should not have been given.

But it was awarded, and Callum Wilson converted on the stroke of half time to put Newcastle 2-1 up going into the break. During the interval, there was plenty of discussion about the incident. Sky Sports pundits Shay Given, the former Newcastle goalkeeper, and Karen Carney both agree it should not have been a penalty, and laid out their reasons why.

"I think that's the line - clear and obvious error," Given said. "I don’t think it’s a clear and obvious error from the referee, when I first saw it live, I wasn’t sure and there’ll be angles that will say it is a penalty and angles that say it isn’t. Anthony Taylor only gets one opportunity to see it live, Schar knows the challenge is coming and perhaps goes down a bit easy for me."

Fellow pundit Karen Carney agreed, saying: "I don’t think it’s a penalty, Hwang actually kicks the floor and Schar gets into him for me but the referee’s decision is the one they stuck with."

Carney also gave her thoughts on Wolves' opening goal, scored by Mario Lemina in the 36th minute. She said: "Trippier really needs to do better, he’s a bit too weak and he loses his man. It’s a great header by Lemina, he wants it more, bullies Trippier and Nick Pope who wanted to come out for the ball is stuck in no man’s land and can’t get to the ball. Two errors from Newcastle have cost them there."
