Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Goncalo Guedes is attracting interest from Villarreal, it has been claimed.

The 26-year-old is currently on a season-long loan at Benfica. Guedes spent the second half of last season with the Portuguese side and will now complete a full season away from Molineux.

Guedes wasn't able to break into the Wolves squad after making the £27.5million move from Valencia last summer. While it remains unclear what Gary O'Neil's intentions with the player is, Villarreal are said to be eyeing a January move for the Portuguese.

That's according to Estadio Deportivo who claim that Guedes is a target for his former boss Marcelino Garcia. The latter will be looking to bolster his squad in the new year after being appointed as Villarreal's new manager earlier this week.

Garcia is well familiar with Guedes, whom he coached at Valencia for a season between 2018 and 2019.

Guedes has only played 160 minutes under Benfica boss Roger Schmidt after returning from a long-term knee injury. Deportivo adds that Villarreal will be ready to open their door for him, claiming he "looks for a way out."
