West Bromwich Albion have an "outside sniff" of finishing inside the top six at the end of the season and making the play-offs after their business in the January transfer window, according to Sky Sports pundit David Prutton.

The club have enjoyed a resurgence under new manager Carlos Corberan, who has lifted the Baggies from second from bottom of the Championship table into the top half since replacing Steve Bruce in the dugout. The Spaniard has overseen six wins from his first eight league games in charge.

West Brom have stumbled in recent weeks, though, as leaders Burnley ended a four-game winning streak with a 2-1 victory at Turf Moor. That was followed up by a disappointing FA Cup exit at the hands of Bristol City, who won 3-0 at Ashton Gate last weekend.

Albion have a chance to get back on track against Coventry City at the Hawthorns on Friday night (kick-off 8pm), a game in which new signings Marc Albrighton and Nathaniel Chalobah, who have both won the Premier League in their careers, could make their first appearance. Both players joined on transfer deadline day from Leicester and Fulham respectively, but Prutton does not expect an easy evening for the hosts, who lost to the Sky Blues in December.

"Looking forward to this game given West Brom's work in the transfer window with Albrighton and Chalobah coming in," the former Nottingham Forest and Leeds United midfielder told Sky Sports' Championship podcast.

"For half an hour in that Burnley game they showed a way to play the Clarets away from home and contain them, but Burnley's class shone through. The Bristol City defeat obviously stung.

"But back to it in the Championship which we're all looking forward to given what the last couple of weeks have brought. I don't think this will be anywhere near straightforward for West Brom after Coventry got back to winning ways against Huddersfield."

When asked if West Brom still have a chance of making the top six, Prutton said: "Yes. Given how congested it is... I think West Brom are nicely placed, a couple of points outside the top six. With the run they've been they are one of many teams, I would say all the way down to even a Coventry or a QPR, who have an outside sniff of making the top six."

Prutton predicted a 2-2 draw between the two Midlands sides.
