Wayne Rooney has received ‘nothing but full support’ from Birmingham City’s top brass after a difficult start in the St Andrew’s dugout.

The former Manchester United and England captain, who replaced John Eustace in the hotseat four weeks ago, is still waiting for his first win. Blues almost managed it on Saturday but two late Marcus Harness goals sealed a point for Ipswich Town at St Andrew’s.

Before Blues’ improved performance against Ipswich, Rooney presided over three straight defeats at the beginning of his tenure - and the new manager had to deal with angry supporters on his St Andrew’s debut versus Hull City. But he is being given time and support to build a bigger and better Birmingham City by owners Knighthead.

Tom Wagner - who travelled to Birmingham to watch the Hull defeat - has been a source of support to Rooney in his first month in the job. As have minority investor Tom Brady, chief executive Garry Cook and technical director Craig Gardner.

“I’m in constant communication with Tom and with Tom Brady, with Garry Cook and with Craig Gardner and as an organisation, we're all fully aware of where we want to get to,” Rooney said last week. “You know, we might have to take a few hits to get there, which over the last three games we have. But ultimately, we know what the end goal is and we know where we want to get to and we're all confident we will do that.

“There’s been nothing but full support [from the top], as I said it’s three games. I think you could ask Pep Guardiola to come down and try and do what they are doing in three games and he would find it difficult.

“It takes time and I know it sounds like a broken record to keep saying this, but it really does and I have no doubt that we will get to where I want.”
