Autumn Statement 2023
The Budget is an announcement of the Government's financial plans for the coming year. There is usually a Spring Budget in March so that the proposals can be approved ahead of the new financial year beginning on April 6. Sometimes there is an Autumn Statement instead or in addition to the Spring Budget. The Budget is a big day on the political calendar when the country is told what new plans will be put in place to help the economy, how the Government's money will be spent and where any extra funds will come from. Topics covered often include taxes, pensions, benefits, cost of living measures, and duty on fuel, alcohol and cigarettes.
