A teenager has been left seriously injured and is fighting for their life after a shooting in Birmingham. West Midlands Police raced to the scene in Ladywood yesterday, November 5, following reports that a 16-year-old male had suffered serious gunshot injuries.

The force said they attended an address in the inner-city suburb just after midday on Sunday. 999 crews scrambled to the scene and the teen, who was found in a "critical condition" was rushed to hospital from a residential address.

Detectives said he remains in a "serious condition" today, Monday November 6. Extra officers are patrolling the area this evening and anyone with information has been urged to contact police.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We're investigating after a teenager suffered serious injuries following a shooting in Ladywood, Birmingham, yesterday (5 Nov).

"We were called to an address in Lighthorne Avenue at around 12.30pm to reports a 16-year-old had suffered gunshot injuries. He was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious condition today.

"We've been carrying out enquiries in the area as we continue to establish exactly what happened and who was involved. We've got officers on patrol in and around the area to offer reassurance and be a point of contact for anybody with concerns.

A West Midlands Ambulance spokesperson said: "A male teenager is in hospital after a shooting in Birmingham yesterday.

"West Midlands Ambulance Service was called at 12.26pm to an address on Lighthorne Avenue in Ladywood and sent two ambulances, two paramedic officers, a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic to the scene.

“On arrival, crews found the patient in a critical condition. Ambulance staff immediately began administering advanced life support.

“He was conveyed to hospital on blue lights in a life-threatening condition with the MERIT trauma doctor travelling on board to provide continued treatment en route.”
