A teenager was rushed to hospital after a car smashed into a tree and caught fire. It happened in Green Road, Hall Green, shortly after 6.30pm on Tuesday, November 7.

West Midlands Fire Service reported that passers-by pulled the teen from the car. It said three other occupants in the car ‘fled the scene’.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent multiple resources to the scene and discovered a teenage boy with serious injuries. He was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Edgbaston.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of a car that had crashed into a tree on Green Road, Hall Green at 6.38pm on Tuesday, November 7 and sent an ambulance, two paramedic officers, a MERIT (Medical Emergency Response and Intervention Team) trauma doctor and critical care paramedic to the scene.

“On arrival we discovered a car that had crashed into a tree and caught fire. There was one male patient, who had been rapidly extricated from the vehicle by bystanders.

“He received treatment at the scene for serious injuries before being transported to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.”

West Midlands Fire Service said it was called to reports of a car in collision with a tree in Green Road in Hall Green and sent fire engines from Billesley and Hay Mills. A spokeswoman for the service said: “Three occupants fled the scene prior to our arrival.

“One man was pulled from the vehicle by passers-by. The vehicle was destroyed by the fire. Crews dealt with the fire and the clean up operation, with the male treated by paramedics.”

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We are investigating after a serious crash in Hall Green last night. We were called to support West Midlands Ambulance Service and West Midlands Fire Service at 6:40pm after a car hit a tree.

"One man was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but the passengers in the car all left the scene. We're keen to speak to anyone who thinks they saw them or who has dashcam or doorbell footage of what happened.
