Rangers are not willing to sell Jack Butland, with only a ‘sensational offer’ from Birmingham City convincing them otherwise, according to reports.

New Blues manager Wayne Rooney is said to have identified Butland as one of his first transfer targets, as he looks to bring the goalkeeper back to the place where he started his career. Butland broke into the first team after coming through the youth teams at St Andrew’s before leaving the club for Stoke City in January 2013. He spent the second half of that season back at the club on a loan deal.

The 30-year-old was available on a free transfer this summer, after leaving Crystal Palace at the end of his contract. Birmingham were said to have made a move for their former goalkeeper, but he instead opted to join Rangers.

Butland signed a four-year contract with the Scottish giants in the summer, putting them in a strong position to see off any interest in upcoming windows. According to TeamTalk, news of potential interest from Blues in the goalkeeper has been ‘scoffed at’ within Ibrox, with the club having ‘zero interest’ in any deal for the player.

It is added that only a ‘sensational offer’ would change their minds. Butland himself is also said to be ‘loving life in Glasgow’, meaning that he is unlikely to push too hard for any move.

Since joining Rangers, the goalkeeper has quickly established himself as first choice. He has started all 16 games in all competitions for the side, keeping seven clean sheets and conceding 17 goals.

Rangers have had a poor start to the season, leading to the sacking of Michael Beale as manager. Philippe Clement has since been named as the new manager, with discussions already taking place over the January transfer window.
