A NX West Midlands bus driver suffered a suspected medical emergency at the wheel in Birmingham today, Monday, November 13. Ambulance crews rushed him to hospital in a "potentially serious condition."

West Midlands Ambulance Service said they responded to a road traffic collision involving a bus on Hagley Road, Edgbaston, just after 3pm. He was taken to City Hospital for further assessment.

West Midlands Police said officers were called after the bus hit the central reservation. The force said it was lucky no-one was injured. The driver was now said to be recovering well in hospital.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 3.07pm to a road traffic collision involving a bus on Hagley Road, Edgbaston. One ambulance attended the scene. Upon arrival we found the driver of the bus who is believed to have suffered a medical incident at the wheel.

"He was assessed by ambulance staff and was in a potentially serious condition. He was conveyed to City Hospital for further assessment. No further patients required treatment.”

In a statement, West Midlands Police said: "We were called to reports of a bus hitting the central reservation on the Hagley Road in Ladywood, shortly after 3.04pm today. There were no reported injuries."

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, the police's Force Response team posted a picture of the bus and said: "RTC Hagley Road into city near Five Ways. Awaiting recovery for the bus lucky no-one was injured and the driver had a medical episode at the wheel and is doing fine in hospital. Log 3075 MM."
