A new Colmore Row restaurant will be giving away 1,000 free burritos to visitors to celebrate its opening this week. Zambrero, an Australian chain which serves Mexican-inspired dishes, will be giving away the burritos on Wednesday, November 15.

Zambrero is located at 31 Colmore Row in the heart of the business district and the chain is asking customers to arrive early to ensure they don't miss out. Wednesday will be a busy day in the neighbourhood as Christmas in Cathedral Square is set to launch with a festive lights switch-on event at Pigeon Park from 6pm until 9pm.

As well as burritos, Zambrero is serving bowls, nachos, tacos and quesadillas including vegetarian and vegan options. They're not included in the free food offer, however.

The brand will be donating a meal to someone in need every time you buy a burrito or a bowl as part of its Plate4Plate initiative. So far, the business has donated more than 73 million meals to Rise Against Hunger.

As well as the free giveaway, Zambrero will be hosting live DJs to entertain diners and there will be competitions to enter too for more chances to win free food.

UK chief executive officer Emily Teh, said: "Our 1,000 free burrito giveaway is a chance for us to invite our community to try out our menu, and we’re looking forward to seeing lots of hungry locals on the day. Each burrito we roll will take us a step closer to reaching our goal of donating a billion meals to people in hunger around the world.

"Now our community in Birmingham can help us get there and do something amazing with their lunch break."
