Some of the Midlands' finest chefs are offering takeaway food while their restaurants remain closed over lockdown - from a van in the city.

Foodie stars Glynn Purnell and Aktar Islam have teamed up with the new Artisan Street Kitchen takeaway service for a weekly click-and-collect Guest Chef event over March and April.

The pair will each be cooking their unique take on street food from a mobile van at The Old Crown pub car park in Digbeth.

Other chefs taking part are former Adam's head chef Tom Shepherd, Paul Foster from Michelin starred Salt in Stratford-Upon-Avon, and Michelin Young Chef of The Year Kray Treadwell, who owns Digbeth eatery 670 Grams.

Opheem chef-owner Aktar's sensational samosa chaat and mutton kebab will be available on Saturday, March 6.

And on March 27, Glynn, who owns Purnell's and Purnell's Bistro in the city centre, will serve up the ultimate pork belly burger as well as banoffee dessert.

Artisan Street Kitchen is the brainchild of Great British Menu chef and Craft restaurant chef Andrew Sheridan, who launched the service last year serving up his street food twist on French classics such as beef Bourguignon, Croque monsieur, and Dauphinoise potatoes.

The Guest Chef event takes place every Saturday, from 5pm - 9pm. It ends on Saturday, April 17, with food from chef Alex Bond of Michelin starred Nottingham eatery Alchemilla.

Craft chef and co-owner of Artisan Street Kitchen, Andrew Sheridan, said: “We’re delighted that this calibre of chefs is joining us on the Artisan airstream at the Old Crown.

“We’ve been working so hard over the latest lockdown to make Artisan Street Kitchen the best it can be and hope that it will bring some happiness during these difficult times.”

Each chef will be cooking a three-course set menu available to pre-order over on the Artisan Street Kitchen website. You must pre-order here.

Birmingham restaurants have been closed since November due to Tier 3 and current lockdown restrictions.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson recently announced that as part of his roadmap out of lockdown, outdoor hospitality would be allowed to open no earlier than April 12.

May 17 has been earmarked as the earliest date indoor hospitality venues will reopen.
