The Met Office has broken its silence over claims snow will hit the UK across 11 dates. The Met Office forecasters and meteorologists have updated medium-to-long-range forecasts towards the end of November and beginning of December, amid the swirling reports from rival forecasters.

Weather maps from the likes of WX Charts have showed snowfall materialising by the end of the penultimate month of the year and the start of the next month, too. WXCharts predicts snowfall will be recorded somewhere in Great Britain on 11 days between now and December 5.

The flurries fall on November 23 to begin with, in Scotland, before November 25 and November 26 again. Snow will continue to fall in the area on November 27, before falling elsewhere in the country - including parts like Inverness - on December 1, too, as the cold weather kicks off the final month of the year too.

Heavy snowfall of two centimetres an hour are likely across much of northern Scotland on December 2. And on December 3, much of northern England, from Newcastle to Manchester, is set for snow of up to two centimetres an hour. Snow is also likely in parts of north-western Scotland on December 4.

Speaking on its website, the Met Office says of November 25 to December 4: "Wintry showers, and strong winds are likely into northern and eastern areas, with the risk of overnight frosts increasing through the weekend. Into next week, an east-west split in weather conditions is most likely.

"The west will have more chance of seeing, milder conditions; cloud, with patchy rain and drizzle, while further east, colder, drier and brighter conditions with blustery wintry showers will likely persist." And looking ahead from December 11 to Christmas, the Met Office goes on: "Temperatures will most likely be near or a little above average for the period as a whole, although some colder interludes are possible. As is normal in December, occasional frost and wintry showers are likely at times."
