Unai Emery is hopeful Emi Martinez will be available for selection against Liverpool on Sunday after the goalkeeper has missed Aston Villa's win over Hibernian on Thursday night.

Martinez has been nursing an injury to his right calf, and was also ruled out of the club's trip to Turf Moor last weekend. He started in the 5-0 win over Hibernian last Wednesday, but was substituted at half-time due to the "small pain".

Robin Olsen replaced him in the starting line-up against Burnley to make his fourth Premier League appearance under Emery. The Sweden international then featured against Hibernian in the second leg of Villa's Europa Conference League play-off at Villa Park.

Martinez trained at Bodymoor Heath on Friday morning ahead of this weekend's clash, and will be assessed tomorrow.

Asked about Martinez's condition ahead of Villa's trip to Liverpool, Emery said: "Emi Martinez trained this morning, tomorrow the last training is going to be important for him to play or not. Hopefully yes. Tomorrow we are going to prepare the for match and be ready for Sunday."

Villa are aiming to extend their unbeaten run to five games when they face Liverpool at Anfield, after beating Hibernian in both legs of their play-off tie, between wins over Everton and Burnley in the Premier League.
