Martin Lewis has issued an urgent warning to EVERY Christmas shopper who risks losing hundreds in seconds. The ITV The Martin Lewis Money Show star, who also stars on Good Morning Britain and This Morning, urged shoppers to exercise caution over the Christmas and Black Friday season.

Mr Lewis warned over a retailer "trick" which could cost shoppers and customers HUNDREDS. "Remember, only buy what you planned to - don't let it tempt you just because its cheaper," he warned on Twitter, now X, ahead of the shopping bonanza later this week in the UK.

He warned: "Just because something is labelled as a deal, doesn't mean it's always a good one. Don’t allow yourself to be taken in by the hype around Black Friday and be sucked into buying something you don’t need or can’t afford. Always do your own price comparisons to ensure you are getting the best deal possible – don’t just take a retailer’s word for it."

On the Money Saving Expert website, Mr Lewis also shared the deals his team think are "duds". "Just because something is labelled as a deal, doesn't mean it's always a good one. You can use the free Amazon price history tool CamelCamelCamel to check if you're actually getting a good deal," he wrote.

The dud deals from Amazon include the Barbie Dreamtopia magic mermaid doll - £16.49 (was £19.59 / RRP £19.99) - which was cheaper at £10.49 in June. The SodaStream Terra sparkling water maker - £64.99 (was £69.99 / RRP £109.99) was cheaper at £59.99 several times in the last year.

And the Kindle Paperwhite - £114.99 (was £149.99) - was cheaper at £99.99 during Prime Day in July. Mr Lewis said: "From what we've seen, you can often find the same deal on many popular items at rivals such as Argos*, Currys* and John Lewis*. If prices are the same or within a penny or two, then check for extra incentives such as longer guarantees or 'free' music subscriptions."
