Martin Lewis has said "it's time to agree" as he issued a warning to anybody buying Christmas presents. Mr Lewis, who was back on the ITV The Martin Lewis Money Show earlier this week, spoke out on Instagram as he called for people to "ban" unnecessary Christmas presents.

Martin wrote: "Time to agree to ban unnecessary Christmas presents, the best gift may be not buying anyone anything. Watch & share if you agree…" The ITV This Morning and Good Morning Britain star went on, saying: "Watch the full Martin Lewis Money Show Live (pre) Christmas special on itvX."

Christine replied: "Don’t buy anyone I know gifts, I ring the council social services ‘Santa line’, get a few kids to buy for and it actually makes me happy filling up a sack for a child who may get little or nothing else." Cath typed: "OK! Then don't put a copious list of the sales on your show! It's promoting retail therapy ....at Christmas! X"

Corina said: "I’ve done this for years. Focus on the children! I don’t need anything apart from a nice dinner and a nap" Cronton said: "I stopped buying for siblings, aunties, uncles, friends etc a long time ago. I limit it to children and parents and it’s much easier. I don’t do Christmas cards either."

Skin said: "I agree. I’ve worked in schools and seen the gifts that these teacher throw in the bin or just leave at school. Those parents feeling obligated to buy their child’s teacher a gift. Personalised gifts such as thermal cups or keyrings thrown in the bin. If only the parents knew there hard earned money was being thrown away like this."

Mikey said: "Applied for that hsbc bank account you recommended on 5 Nov and was approved but still not been able to open the account! Do you know anything about what is going on? Applied on your recommendation but now seems a bit dodgy???" Curly said: "You could gift the option of your time, or walk a dog or do your own voucher if I owe you say I’ll cook u dinner on Sunday or something like that."

Ab said: "Brilliant. I stopped with friends due to the financial crisis. We meet for coffee and a chat. Yes as I live alone it’s tough on Christmas morning but the feeling I have of not pressurising friends to find the money so they can buy for family is the best Christmas morning present. I also don’t have the January debt or the stress to get around everyone before Christmas. Meet up in January when people are low or depressed needing a break out of the house."

"Bar humbug.. seriously I think if you can't afford it, just be honest. And if you don't want gifts so people don't waste money advice now not on 24th December," Billy agreed.
