A man has been left with life-threatening injuries after a car crashed close to a garden centre near Sutton Coldfield. The incident took place in Coppice Lane in Middleton by the Coppice Garden Centre and Fig and Olive restaurant shortly before 10.30pm on Wednesday (November 15).

A car is said to have gone through a fence and on to a field and left a man, a passenger, fighting for his life and taken to a major Birmingham trauma centre. While a woman, the driver, was also injured in the incident but the injuries were ‘not serious’.

Police, fire and ambulance crews rushed to the scene. West Midlands Ambulance Service sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a MERIT (Medical Emergency Response Incident Team) trauma doctor and a critical care paramedic to the scene.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: “A man and a woman have been conveyed to hospital following a single car collision in Tamworth on Wednesday night. West Midlands Ambulance Service was called at 10.26pm to a collision on Coppice Lane, Middleton in Tamworth.

“Upon arrival we found a woman and a man who were the driver of and a passenger in the car. The man who was the passenger in the car was assessed by ambulance staff and had sustained life-threatening injuries.

“He received advanced trauma care from ambulance staff at the scene and was conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment. The woman who was the driver of the car was assessed by ambulance staff at the scene and had sustained injuries not believed to be serious.

“She was conveyed to Good Hope Hospital for further assessment.” Warwickshire Police has been approached for a statement.
