A man has been charged with causing GBH and ABH after a police officer was slashed with a knife and a second punched. They were injured at an address in Yardley Wood Road, Springfield, at around 3.30pm on Sunday, November 19.

Both officers were taken to hospital and later discharged. One was said to have been a student and had ‘significant lasting injuries’, West Midlands Police said. Tariq Zeb, from Yardley Wood Road, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm and causing actual bodily harm.

The 52-year-old was remanded in custody and was due to appear before Birmingham magistrates today, Tuesday, November 21.

West Midlands Police said: “A man has been charged with assaulting police officers after an incident in Springfield, Birmingham. Tariq Zeb, 52, has been charged with one count of grievous bodily harm and one count of assault causing actual bodily harm.

“Zeb, of Yardley Wood Road, was charged following an incident at an address in Springfield on November 19 in which two officers were assaulted. One officer received a slash wound to his face caused by a knife, and another officer was punched. Both were taken to hospital and thankfully following treatment have since been discharged. Zeb was remanded in custody to appear before magistrates in Birmingham today, November 21.
