Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Julen Lopetegui says he didn't want Raul Jimenez to leave the club, while highlighting it was not his decision.

The Mexican completed a move to Fulham for a reported £5.5million fee. Jimenez ended a five year stint at Molineux, playing a total of 166 games and scoring 57 times.

Jimenez signed a two-year contract at Craven Cottage and Fulham hold the option to extend his stay by another year.

While Lopetegui looked to make new additions ahead of his first full season in the Premier League, Wolves are operating on a severely restricted budget. Despite raising almost £90million in player sales since last season, they are still restricted to spending at all until further sales are made.

When asked about Jimenez's departure, Lopetegui told transfer expert Guillem Balague: "It's not about losing players, it's about having more players and to be competitive. For example, Raul Jimenez he's gone.

"It was a pity for me that he's gone but it's not under my control that players go out or not. I want to highlight this, it's not under my control.

"I can understand [Jimenez's transfer] but of course, I have to highlight the demands we're going to have in the Premier League and we have to be ready for that. I would like that all the players stay here because we need them, it's about the numbers.

"But I don't know what is going to happen."
