From kettles to cars: 12 lost factories that employed generations of Brummies
Midlands News
These factories were once some of Birmingham's biggest employers and were the power house of the 20th century. From Swan kettles to Rover cars, all were made during the century and the development of manufacturing shaped the world. With the iconic Spitfire factory in Castle Bromwich, the manufacturing in Birmingham shaped the future of the war. Other developments which changed us forever were Alfred Bird and his egg free custard powder to the Ty-Phoo tea factory. All these changes shaped the way we live and work today. These along with William Butler and Henry Mitchell creating M&B Brewery, millions of Brummies have either celebrated triumphs or drowned away their sorrows.
