Redditch’s Kingfisher Shopping Centre, a retail landmark in the heart of the town, is celebrating its 50th anniversary

Redditch’s iconic Kingfisher Shopping Centre is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a free exhibition full of photos, old adverts and its famous palm trees. ‘Kingfishtory’ is aimed at evoking memories for those who have visited the centre since it opened in 1973.

It tells the story of how it, and retail, has evolved over the past five decades in Worcestershire and the wider Midlands. Filled with photos, old TV adverts, memorabilia and quizzes, the Centre’s Management team has trawled the archives to produce an exhibition aimed at getting locals and visitors to reminisce.

Over the years Kingfisher has welcomed thousands of visitors, growing to become an integral part of the town's identity. The exhibition in 24 Walford Walk, opposite Clintons, runs from 11am to 4pm every day until the end of the year.

As well as a chronological run through the centre’s big moments, visitors will be able to see the famous people who have passed through Kingfisher’s doors, photos of many of the former shops over the years, old adverts some of which have very much dated, a brand quiz and an opportunity to share memories.
