Birmingham has serious game when it comes to history. What with the industrial revolution, a melting pot of cultures, and so on, there is a lot of intricate stuff out there.
In fact, you could be walking to the supermarket or coming home from the pub and miss something. With that in mind, we have gathered together some secret places we pass everyday and never even notice they are there.
Among them are artsy parts of Aston, Acocks Green and even Spaghetti Junction. We've included some things that will be familiar to you and probably some others you've wondered by and just not noticed.

Two bridges over Lawley Middleway build in different eras.
The Grand Junction Railway viaduct to Curzon Street with the LNWR Aston to New Street line built on top over Lawley Middleway.
The first built in Georgian style in 1837 and the second a classic Victorian blue brick, in 1893.

A temporary Birmingham station was opened in 1837 at Vauxhall, and the Curzon Street Station was opened in the following year 1838, after the completion of the first viaduct and a bridge over the Grand Junction Canal.
The viaduct was later raised in height in 1893 by the addition of a blue brick structure, built to carry trains through to New Street Station which opened much later and was higher, hence the need for another bridge.
They both pass over Lawley Middleway, just down from the Blues ground.

Little remains of Fox Hollies Hall in Acocks Green other than the gate posts on the main road. The hall was once part of Maxstoke Priory and has a rich history.
It was built in 1869 by Zaccheus Walker III.

Zaccheus Walker III, whose father, Zaccheus Walker II, was an industrialist who was almost killed in the French Revolution, had it not have been for his friendship with Robespierre, the famous leader of France during the bloody revolution, ending in the beheading of Louis XVI.

By 1880, Zaccheus' health was poor, and the Hall passed into the ownership of his son, Lieutenant-Colonel Zaccheus Walker IV, who was working as a draftsman at the time. Lt. Col. Walker was the chairperson of many local Boards and Committees, and after buying land close to the Hall in 1912, sold off a majority of the land between 1925 and 1926, at a total of £44,746, with the sale of land it helped the village of Acocks Green expand into centre it is today.
