BirminghamLive published an online article on September 24 headlined: New Spire Parkway Hospital scandal as doctor could be struck off over operations patients 'did not need' .

In the article we incorrectly reported that Dr Amir Salama performed operations and conducted procedures that were not "clinically indicated". In fact, these allegations were found Not Proven.

We correctly reported that the MPTS hearing will resume again in March, but it was inaccurate to state that the tribunal will impose sanctions on Dr Salama’s registration. The tribunal has yet to make a decision on whether his fitness to practise is currently impaired, based on the allegations that have been found proved.

We apologise to Dr Salama for these inaccuracies and have removed the online article. The tribunal has now adjourned until March 20 to 24 to conclude the case.
