DPD has released a statement after one of its delivery drivers was tragically killed after making a delivery in Shropshire. Aurman Singh, 23, died in died in Berwick Avenue, in the Coton Hill area of Shrewsbury, on Monday, August 21.

Mr Singh, from Smethwick, was allegedly killed when a 'gang ambushed him'. He suffered life-threatening injuries following the incident on Monday afternoon and could not be saved.

West Mercia Police have arrested four men in their 20s on suspicion of murder and fifth person on suspicion of assisting an offender. A DPD spokesman previously confirmed Mr Singh was part of a two-person crew and was attacked while delivering parcels.

However it's not believed this was the motive and detectives are not following lines of inquiry that it was a robbery. A spokesperson for the parcel firm told Birmingham Live that it does not normally deploy two-person crews to ensure they are safe and there had not been any changes to its driver policy since the attack.

Asked whether DPD has two-person crews for that reason, a spokesperson said: "No, there are a number of different reasons why we deploy two-person crews - including the nature of parcels being delivered that day." The suspects remain in custody as a police investigation by West Mercia Police continues.
