Arsenal consider Douglas Luiz the "perfect midfielder" as they look to sign a new midfielder in January, it has been claimed.

The Aston Villa midfielder was subject of three deadline day bids from Arsenal in the summer of 2022. Luiz then put a stop to all speculation by signing a new long-term deal.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano states that Luiz has been on Arsenal's transfer list for more than two years. Luiz is "top target" for the club, and Mikel Arteta "really want and appreciate" the Brazilian.

Arsenal are keen to sign a new midfielder in the new year given the injuries to Thomas Partey. Luiz is said to be regarded as the "perfect midfielder," while his "many different factors" make him "top of the list" for Arteta.

Romano adds that a potential transfer is being "discussed internally" but it remains to be seen whether they will tempt Villa with a significant offer.

But Villa's stance remains clear, their intention is to not sell him. Luiz has become a mainstay in Villa's midfield and his form has led him to return to the Brazil national team.
