In the spirit of warming the person, not the whole house, we're embracing thermal socks this winter. That's why we were heartened to see that Amazon has not one but five pairs of Nordic-style, wool socks for less than a tenner in its Black Friday sale.
The Augola thermal winter womens socks come in a cute vintage style in a mixture of colours. They did cost £10.99 but have been reduced by 20 percent to £8.79.
Made with 15 percent wool and 55 percent cotton, they are said to be long and thick to give you more warmth. And they get an overall 4.5 star rating from more than 2,500 reviews.

One shopper said: "Fantastic socks. I suffer with very cold feet so wanted some thicker socks now it's getting colder. They are very cosy, soft and groovy colours. I gave my 14 year old daughter a few pairs and she loved them too! They were such a great bargain I bought another lot. Highly recommended."
Another added: "Think these are meant to be bed socks but I wear them around the house instead of slippers. Find them great. Just wish they did them in darker colours though."

One shopper warned that people with larger feet may find them a little tight: "I have size 7 feet and these socks were a little tight for me. They are not very stretchy. Gave them to my sister who is a size 4."
