A BBC Strictly Come Dancing body language expert has warned Nigel Harman and Katya Jones they have "slipped behind" after "taking their eyes off the ball". Speaking on behalf of Betfair Casino, body language expert Darren Stanton has analysed how strong the Strictly Come Dancing performances were at Blackpool.

He said: “This week was a real blip for Nigel and Katya, which none of us saw coming. They’ve really slipped behind this week. We also saw Nigel storm off after receiving his score. I think they thought they had it in the bag, and they could relax a bit - but they’ve taken their eyes off the ball and it hasn’t done them any favours.

"The pressure may have gotten to them and they will be feeling it even more now. We also saw a different side to Katya. Normally we see her feeling a lot of joy with no fake smiles, but this week she was putting on a front. She displayed signals of disgust and anger. It tells us that they felt humiliated to be in a low position.

"I’m concerned for Nigel now, he really needs to up his game next week and prove his position.” On Angela Rippon's exit, Darren went on: “Reaching Blackpool was very important for Angela. It was a great accomplishment for her and Kai. Angela and Kai had a very strong dynamic. Kai respected her enormously and really worked with her as a team.

"When she was told she was leaving, she was absolutely gutted. She was masking a lot of upset and she didn’t want to let anyone down. But it was clear she was feeling disappointed as she was trying her best to hold back the tears.” Over the course of his career, Mr Stanton has also analysed heightened political situations including General Election debates and key interviews with the likes of Dominic Cummings.
