A man believed to be the driver of a car has been injured in a suspected 'carjacking' at a Birmingham petrol station forecourt. The incident took place at the Sainsbury’s garage off Chester Road, at the Castle Vale Retail Park shortly after 9am on Friday (November 10).

Police and ambulance crews rushed to the scene after eyewitnesses reported a Vauxhall car being stolen while a man was believed to be filling up the tyres on his car. The thief is believed to have jumped in the driver’s seat, where the ‘keys were in the ignition’ and drove off.

The driver is then believed to have been struck by the thief driving his car on the retail park. West Midlands Ambulance Service said the man suffered ‘serious injuries’ to his leg, but the police said his injuries were ‘not life-threatening’.
