A candlelit vigil in memory of a teenager stabbed to death in Wolverhampton is set to take place. Mourners are expected to come together this weekend to pay tribute to 19-year-old Shawn Seesahai.

He was wounded in open land off Laburnum Road, in the East Park area of Wolverhampton. Police said he was with friends when he was attacked just before 8.30pm on Monday, November 15.

Mr Seesahai - described by his mum as 'courageous, compassionate and confident' - died at the scene. Now, people are invited to join a vigil in his memory on Sunday, November 19.

It will take place at Stowlawn playing fields, off Green Park Avenue, from 6pm. Members of the public are being encouraged to bring flowers or a candle to the vigil.

One person posted on Facebook that the community was 'devastated'. They added: "A few local people have decided to hold a vigil for the young boy who sadly lost his life last Monday evening.

"We’re asking that as many people as possible from the local wider community come out and show respects for Shawn and to his loved ones." Police patrols were stepped up in the wake of Mr Seesahai's death, with West Midlands Police describing how the community was 'understandably shocked and concerned'.

Two 12-year-old boys have since been charged with murdering Mr Seesahai and are due to appear in court.
