Cadbury fans are angry with a change to Roses tubs for Christmas 2023 - and have rushed to have their say on social media and complain. Fans of the chocolate item, which is made by the confectionery giant in Birmingham, are unhappy with an alteration this year.

Taking to Facebook, an eagle-eyed shopper noticed the different size of the tubs and tins this year and took to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group on social media to alert others who may be buying the products. They saw Roses now weigh 50g less than last year.

"Smaller size alert 600g last Christmas, this year 550g!" the shopper wrote. In response, chocolate fans rushed to reply to the punter and gave their views and verdicts on the 'shrinkflation' of the Christmas item. One said: "It's like everything nowadays – more money less for it," while another chimed in: "Just don't buy them! Only way this will stop."

A spokesperson for Mondelez, which owns Cadbury, said: "We are facing the same challenges that so many other food companies have already reported when it comes to significantly increased input costs – whether it's food commodities, energy prices or packaging materials – and rising inflation.

"This means that our products are much more expensive to make. We understand that consumers are faced with rising costs too, which is why we look to absorb costs wherever we can, but, in this difficult environment, we've had to make the decision reduce the size of our Heroes and Roses tubs to maintain the great taste and quality our fans enjoy."

Last year, Cadbury slashed the size of its family-size bars of Dairy Milk by 10 per cent. Mondelez said this was the first time in a decade that they had shrunk a Dairy Milk. In 2012, a 49g bar was reduced to 45g but the price remained 59p, while the 140g chocolate bar was reduced in size to 120g a year earlier.
