West Bromwich Albion have confirmed the signing of winger Jeremy Sarmiento on a season-long loan from Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 21-year-old becomes Carlos Corberan's first signing of the summer window as the Albion boss looks to strengthen his team ahead of the new season.

The Ecuador international arrives at the Hawthorns in search of game time in the new season. He made a total of 12 Premier League appearances for Brighton last season, but also featured in all three of Ecuador's group games in the World Cup.

He has been with Brighton since joining from Benfica in 2021, but will now look to build more match experience in the Championship with Albion.

Upon the announcement of his signing Corberan explained how his experience in both the Premier League and on the international stage was one of the reasons the club moved for him this window.

“The fact he has already played in the Premier League and at a World Cup gives me the confidence that he has the personality and desire required to keep developing his skills," he told the club's official website.

“He is a versatile attacker who can play on either wing, as well as through the middle as a 10, and his flexibility to play to a high standard in three different positions will be important to us.”

Sarmiento's arrival comes after winger Marc Albrighton, who spent the second half of last season on loan with West Brom, returned to parent club Leicester City. The loanee made a total of 17 appearances for the club.
