A boy suffered burns to his face, head, neck and chest after being 'hit by a firework' in Tamworth before Bonfire Night. The shocking accident happened near Caledonian in Glascote, Tamworth late last Friday night, November 3.

A full emergency service response was pictured at the scene after the incident including police, fire engines and multiple ambulances.

There were two patients in total, both treated by medics. One was described as having "potentially serious injuries" before being taken to Burton Hospital for further treatment while the second man was treated for injuries not believed to be serious and went to Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield.

Emergency services incident in Caledonian, Glascote Heath, Tamworth.

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed: "We were called at 8.30pm on Friday (3rd November) to reports of two patients being hit by fireworks near Caledonian in Glascote, Tamworth.

"Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the West Midlands CARE Team were sent to the scene where, on arrival, they found two male patients.

"The first man was treated by ambulance staff for potentially serious injuries before being taken to Burton Hospital for further treatment.

"While the second man was treated for injuries not believed to be serious and conveyed to Good Hope Hospital."

A post online said: "Good evening. This is the dad of the boy who was injured at the fireworks display in Glascote. He is OK, just minor burns on his face, head, neck and chest but he is doing ok thank you."

Staffordshire Police said: "Officers were called to Caledonian, Glascote Heath, on Friday (3 November) following reports of injuries caused by a firework.

"A man had picked up a firework box which he believed to be empty. The firework inside then exploded, hitting another man in the face. Both men received serious but not life threatening injuries and were taken to hospital. No other members of the public were seriously injured.

"Colleagues from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service were also called to check that the area was safe. Enquiries into the circumstances of this incident are ongoing."
