Former Birmingham pop star Jamelia has revealed a novel way to keep romance alive over lockdown - with 'dates' to the supermarket.

Nights out on the town are of course off the menu during the pandemic.

But the mum-of-three shows going on Covid friendly lockdown 'dates' to even the most mundane places can boost relationships.

Jamelia, 40, posted a video on her public Facebook page about lockdown dates with her husband, the father of her youngest daughter True.

The unnamed partner of the former Loose Women panelist features in the video - with his face hidden from view.

Jamelia tells fans: "Something me and my hubby have been doing is turning mundane/ordinary things into 'dates'.

"I mean actually getting ready and making an effort like it’s the real thing.

"It’s actually been lovely and a reminder of all the little things we have to be grateful for...the next one we’ve planned is putting together an IKEA cabinet."

In the delightful video, Jamelia talks about using all the things you'd normally do for a proper night out including "putting on date night underwear, spraying yourself with perfume... "

She then gets into a car with her husband - before they later arrive at their local supermarket!

Jamelia then jokes her husband is "always taking me to my favourite places."

The former pop star has two other daughters - Teja, 19, and 15-year- old Tiani.

In an emotional interview with This Morning just after True's birth, the former Loose Women host described how she nearly died in her arms after she stopped breathing.

Jamelia recalled: "At that point I can only describe panic. After about two minutes I just remember my daughter going limp and I felt like when she was giving up.

"I just noticed at one point she flung herself backwards and it took me a couple of seconds to realise she wasn't breathing.

Eldest daughter Teja called an ambulance and was able to follow the instructions of paramedics to stop True choking - saving her life.

As a result, Jamelia called for more mums to get CPR training.

She added: “A lot of people make the wrong assumptions. Myself and my daughter have got first aid training.

"Just having that knowledge is invaluable. As a mother you want to be in control, you want to know what to do."
