A new Birmingham restaurant is set to open on Thursday, November 30 with a £39 chippy tea. Six by Nico will open on Colmore Row in the coming weeks and is doing so with a special menu that pays tribute to a classic Friday night favourite.

The restaurant is part of a chain that offers six course tasting menus that change every six weeks. It will launch in Birmingham with 'The Chippie', featuring chips and cheese, steak pie and a fish supper as well as a deep fried Mars bar with Irn Bru sorbet and chocolate pave.

The 'elevated classics' menu has been designed to give diners 'nostalgia' as they dine. Restaurant founder, Nico Simeone, is from Glasgow, which explains why the dessert has a distinctly Scottish twist.

The restaurant offers fine dining-style dishes so your chips and cheese will, for example, be served with parmesan espuma, curry oil and emulsion and a crisp potato terrine. The steak pie will be made of 24-hour beef shin with burnt onion ketchup, mushroom duxelle and 'meaty salsa'.

Other dishes on the menu include scampi with brandade, dill emulsion, gribiche, peas and beurre blanc and smoked sausage. The full six courses will be priced at £39 and there's a wine pairing for courses 2-6 priced at £30.

Vegetarians will be accommodated for with an alternative menu that features cauliflower beignet, root vegetable pie, halloumi and more. Bookings are now open.

The new restaurant has been designed with Birmingham in mind, with nods to Birmingham's industrial heritage. You can find out more about that here.

Chef Nico said: "The Chippie menu has to be my favourite menu because of the meaning and sentiment it holds for me. It was inspired by my childhood, and I’m excited for our new Birmingham guests to feel that nostalgia with every bite."
